Civil Society Organisations

Civil society is an essential ingredient of development. Civil society comprises organisations that are not associated with government—including schools and universities, advocacy groups, professional associations, churches, and cultural institutions.

Importance of Civil Society Organisations

Civil society organisations play multiple roles. They are an important source of information for both citizens and government. They monitor government policies and actions and hold government accountable. They engage in advocacy and offer alternative policies for government, the private sector, and other institutions. They deliver services, especially to the poor and underserved. They defend citizen rights and work to change and uphold social norms and behaviours.

Individuals and relationships are important to succeed. There will be some individuals on both sides of the negotiating table who are more able and willing to understand the dreams and demands of all sides, and more interested in seeking change and compromise. Identifying, understanding and building relationships with them is an essential part of making change happen.

Disgruntled citizens are primarily characterised by poor service delivery that is attributable to poor governance, mismanagement and corruption.

Rate Payers Organisation

The Good Samaritan Rate Payers Organisation Forum creates the necessary leverage to act on behalf of all Rate Payers Associations and interest groups throughout South Africa.

Municipalities are required to grow local economies and providing infrastructure and service. There are 278 municipalities in South Africa, comprising 8 metropolitan, 44 district and 226 local municipalities.

Political liberation has yet to translate into material gains to ensure that the citizens voices are heard.

Good Samaritan is your conduit to address failure by government and municipal officials to enforce the law and/or municipal by-laws and to address the issue of poor service delivery and to eradicate corruption in so far as it relates to government and municipal officials.

It takes more than a single agency and civic organization to fight corruption and to restore respect for law and order.
